When should you water an indoor plant?
Check the pot before you check the calendar. A routine you can adjust to each plant.

Check the mix first
A weekly reminder is useful for checking plants, but it should not mean watering every pot. Feel the growing mix and lift the pot if it is manageable. A lighter pot and drying mix tell you more than the day of the week.
Match the routine to the plant
Pothos and many foliage plants prefer the surface to begin drying between waterings. ZZ, jade and aloe need a longer dry interval. Calatheas need more consistent moisture. Keep each plant’s care notes handy until you recognise its pattern.
Water and drain
When a plant needs water, wet the mix evenly and let excess water leave through the drainage holes. Empty the saucer afterwards. Check again after moving a plant: a hot balcony, a damp week or an air-conditioned room can all change how quickly its pot dries.
